| A Song
of Thanksgiving There are wondrous things to be grateful for, When once we start the score: The deep-blue sky; the sun on high; The hills; the waves; the shore; The fields and orchards, fruited deep, Teeming with harvest gold --- Let us give thanks we have eyes to see God's beauties manifold There are bird songs still in the crimsoned trees, And a baby's laughing call Tunes in with the cricket's merry chirp From a niche of the cottage wall. And so the joyous chorus rings The whole glad world around --- Let us rejoice we have ears to hear God's voice in every sound. |
There is everything to be thankful for In the days that brim life's cup; Let us pause a bit, now we think of it, And count our blessings up. There's a smile on the face of a mother dear, A handclasp warm and strong From the one who knows our need of cheer As we journey the road along. There are many things to be grateful for, However swings the tide --- A thousand blessings to every ill We can name on the other side. And when we have learned the lessons well, To vision the good and true, We shall know, indeed, that the thankful heart Comes always smiling through. by: Alicia Carew Stewart - November 1926 |
